P.D. Parker, Professor of Physics and
Astronomy
1963         Ph.D., Caltech
1963-66   Reserach Physicist, BNL
1966-       Faculty, Yale University
Research Interests
The research interests of Peter Parker are focused in the area of nuclear
astrophysics, for example, the solar neutrino problem and explosive
nucleosynthesis in nova and supernova events. In the latter area, he continues
to work on parallel, complementary programs involving (a) the use of stable
beams both to identify important resonances and to make nuclear spectroscopy
measurements their properties and (b) the use of radioactive ion beams to make
direct measurements of those resonances. In a number of recent cases, these
studies have been directly motivated by satellite observations of gamma-ray
lines coming from specific galactic sites. In addition to experiments carried
out on the Yale tandem, over the past decade a number of these measurements have
been carried out at a variety of complementary facilities, including ANL-ATLAS,
IUCF, ORNL-HRIBF, Princeton, Stuttgart, and Washington.
